TOYOTA HYBRID - SILENTLY MAKING A DIFFERENCE

With the widest range of Hybrid models – Toyota is leading the way in Hybrid technology world wide. Toyota have spent the last 20 years fine tuning the technology and have sold over 20 million Toyota Hybrid cars globally – working towards a more sustainable future for all.

Toyota Hybrid technology offers the perfect balance of performance and economy.

The Hybrid combination:

  • Petrol Engine – for high speed driving
  • Electric motor – for powering the car at low speeds
  • High performance Hybrid battery – use the energy captured when decelerating or braking – charging while you drive

The Hybrid system allows you to cover more ground while lowering emissions1. Our hybrid battery is recharged while you drive so it’s always ready to go without ever needing to be plugged in.

Intelligent switching

Intelligent switching

When stationary or driving in city traffic, the vehicle can automatically switch to electric (or EV) mode using zero fuel and dramatically reducing CO2 emissions1.

Charges while you drive

Charges while you drive

During deceleration or when braking, the electric motor continues to generate power, storing it in the vehicle’s battery to keep it charged.

Fast power delivery

Fast power delivery

When accelerating or cruising at high speeds, the petrol engine turns on automatically for extra power and responsive performance when you need it.

How they Hybrid System Works

Off-the-line acceleration

The electric motor is used primarily and power stored in the battery is used to smoothly turn the motor.

Full acceleration

Power is provided by the petrol engine in addition to the electric motor for added torque.

The output is maximised for seamless performance and acceleration.

Braking and deceleration

The electric motor functions as a generator to recharge the battery by itself.

No fuel is used, so there are minimal CO2 emissions.

Regular driving

The mix of petrol and electric is used for the best economy, depending on the conditions.

The battery is non-intrusively recharged in the background.

Resting

When the car is brought to a stop with a sufficient battery charge, the petrol engine shuts off completely. The system will automatically avoid idling like this to conserve fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.
