Our weekend racing at Paynesville on the 2nd April. We won the Inaugural Riviera Cup.
Boat name – GP1 and pilot Grant Harrison.

Peyton - One of Keith Harrison's first race boats. Racing at Melton with friend Tony Cawood as jockey. Circa late 60's.

First Race - Grant Harrison aged 18 years in his first ever race meeting. Here he is heading out for his first race which was at Albert Park Lake, Melbourne in 1987. The boat was one of his father Keith's race boats. Powered by a 202ci 6 cylinder Holden producing 240bhp and up to 85mph (137kph).

Grant Ready to Race, aged 7 years! Picture that appeared in the press around 1975. Keith's son Grant getting a taste for racing at an early age. The boat in the picture is a Bert Everingham fiberglass hull. Keith competed in the 225ci class right across Victoria and NSW being almost unbeatable winning many state and club titles.

The Rat, Winner EC Griffith Cup 1986 - This was Keith Harrison's entry into unlimited powerboat racing in 1985. Formally known as the Desert Rat, this KT tunnel was purchased from George Robins of Broken Hill. The Rat was immediately successful upon purchase and the team made some modifications to the engine and drive line in 1986. Keith won the Australian open unlimited unrestricted championship and the EC Griffith Cup for the first time in his 20 year racing career. The Rat went on to win nearly every major Australian championship and was to become one of Keith's favorite race crafts.

Torque Racing at Albert Park - Grant Harrison racing at Albert Park Lake in Melbourne. Here the boat has been given more horsepower with a much more powerful 186ci fuel injected turbo charged 6 cylinder Holden engine, producing 540bhp and pushing 100mph (160kph). This boat won several Victoria Class championships and set a speed record.

Torque Racing at Kilo - This 6.0 litre hydroplane was Grant Harrison's first experience with hydroplane racing. Keith purchased the boat from good friend Graham Rodgers after a nasty accident and rebuilt the hull. Pictured at Griffith in NSW, this photo is taken as Grant is completing a Kilo trial that earnt him his 100 mph badge. The combination ran for a few years and won various state championships in the 6 litre hydroplane class.

Spellbound at Dargle 1998 - Debuting 1991, Spellbound was the most advanced and radical hydroplane in Australia and pretty much the world. The new tri-wing grand prix hydroplane replaced the legendary 'The Rat' tunnel hull Keith had campaigned so successfully. Spellbound was designed in Seattle, USA, and shipped in kit form to Australia and assembled by the Spellbound race team. Keith piloted Spellbound until1994 when his son Grant took over the driving duties. The hydro was powered by a 510ci Keith Black alloy V8 twin turbo charge fuel injected engine. The craft was awesomely fast in smooth water, however, the radical tri-wing design was not suited to rough water. Spellbound was severely damaged in a racing accident at Geelong in 2001.

GP 101 - Season 2002-2003 was one of Keith and Grant Harrison's most successful. With Grant piloting the new grand prix hydroplane from North America and Keith resuming the owner/crew chief role, the ex-Spellbound crew now GP101 crew won 12 races from 12 starts. This awesome looking craft is powered by a 510ci supercharged Chevrolet engine and capable of speeds up to 170mph (270kph).

Grant and Cup - 2003 was Grant Harrison's most successful year of racing in his 16 year career. Here pictured with the EC Griffith Cup he won in June 2003 at Wisemans Ferry on the Hawkesbury River in NSW. The EC Griffith Cup is the Australasian open unlimited, unrestricted, championship of power boast racing. He piloted his grand prix hydroplane GP101 to take the title and fulfill a lifetime dream. Also adding his name to the trophy his father Keith won in 1996 driving The Rat. Keith and Grant are the only father and son to win the championship in Australia. The EC Griffith Cup has been competed for since 1912 making it Australia's oldest motor sport trophy.

Australia's first ever powerboating World Champion - February (2004) saw the GP101 team travel to New Zealand to take on the best Grand Prix Hydroplanes in the world. After two weekends of racing at Wanganui and Lake Karapiro - Cambridge, the father and son team added another major title to their racing resume. It was the biggest and most important in both their careers, the coveted 'World Title Championship' becoming the first team in the Southern Hemisphere to ever win the Grand Prix Hydroplane Championship.
